About the Role

A Merch Representative (often called a Merchandising Representative or Merch Rep) is responsible for managing and overseeing the sale of merchandise at events like concerts, festivals, trade shows, or retail spaces. They interact with customers, handle inventory, and ensure that merchandise displays are attractive and well-stocked.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Merchandise Sales:

  • Set up, organize, and display merchandise in an appealing manner.

  • Engage with customers, promoting products and answering questions about items.

  • Process transactions, including cash, card, and digital payments.

  • Maintain accurate sales records and keep track of inventory.

 

Customer Service:

  • Provide excellent customer service by being friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable about products.

  • Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a professional manner.

  • Upsell or suggest additional items when appropriate.

  • Inventory Management:

  • Ensure that merchandise is always stocked and neatly arranged.

  • Restock products as needed and monitor inventory levels during events.

  • Track and report sales and inventory to supervisors or event organizers.

  • Manage product returns or exchanges as needed.

  • Setup and Breakdown:

  • Set up the merch table or booth before the event starts.

  • Break down the table and pack away merchandise at the end of the event.

  • Cash Handling and Reporting:

  • Handle cash, credit card payments, and provide change when necessary.

  • Reconcile cash drawers and complete transaction records accurately at the end of each shift.

  • Assist with reporting daily sales to supervisors or the finance team.

 

Promotions and Marketing:

  • Help promote special offers, discounts, or new products.

  • Hand out promotional materials such as flyers, business cards, or discount coupons.

  • Assist with social media posts, if applicable, to promote the merch table during event

 

Event Coordination:

  • Work with event organizers to coordinate product displays and ensure merchandise fits within the event's theme or layout.

  • Attend pre-event meetings to understand expectations and event details.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Communication Skills: Ability to engage with customers effectively and work as part of a team.

  • Sales Experience: Previous experience in retail, sales, or customer service is often preferred.

  • Organizational Skills: Able to keep track of inventory, sales, and money efficiently.

  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring products are properly displayed and stocked.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift boxes or products when needed.

  • Technical Proficiency: Basic knowledge of point-of-sale systems and cash handling.

 

Work Environment:

Fast paced in office and at events such as concerts, festivals, theatres, arenas, etc.
Hours: Flexible and dependent on event schedules. It may require long hours, evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.
